Suspect wanted in 2024 shooting

The Meridian Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in locating a suspect involved in a 2024 shooting of a husband and wife that claimed the man’s life.

 

MPD officials have identified 20-year-old Sanchez Ruffin as a suspect in the Aug. 22, 2024, shooting in the 1600 block of 37th Avenue. John E. Davis, 73, and his wife, 66-year-old Emma J. Davis, both sustained gunshot injuries.

John Davis was airlifted to Jackson where he died later. Emma Davis was listed in critical condition at a local hospital; she was later released.

 

Acting Captain Dareall Thompson said Ruffin is facing a charge of second-degree murder and a charge of aggravated assault.

 

“He is considered armed and dangerous,” Thompson said.

 

Thompson cautioned that anyone hiding the suspect will face criminal charges.
