The Mississippi Public Service Commission is joining the Environmental Protection Agency in promoting Fix a Leak Week, March 17-21, to raise awareness about the importance of monitoring water usage.
According to the EPA, the average American home loses up to 10,000 gallons of water per year due to leaks.
“Being mindful of our water usage today helps ensure affordability tomorrow,” the state’s three Commissioners said in a statement announcing the initiative. “Fix a Leak Week is an excellent opportunity for Mississippians to take action in identifying and repairing household leaks. Fixing these leaks could help homeowners save approximately 10% on their water bills.”
The Commission encourages individuals to take the following steps during Fix a Leak Week:
— Check for leaks under sinks, toilets, and around appliances
— Fix leaky faucets, toilets, and irrigation systems
— Install low-flow fixtures and appliances
— Monitor water usage and detect hidden leaks
