GULFPORT — A Mississippi Power storm team of nearly 150 line crew, support personnel and contractor resources headed east to join Alabama’s restoration efforts following a weekend of severe weather.

The first crews arrived in Alabama Sunday afternoon and immediately began restoring service to customers near Selma and Camden. An additional group departed Monday morning.

“After ensuring our customers were restored here at home, we were happy to assist our neighbors in Alabama,” said Mississippi Power Storm Director Matt Fall. “We know they would do the same for us when we need it, so our storm-tested crews were ready to get to work for those customers.”

A line of severe weather moved quickly across Mississippi and Alabama leaving downed trees, poles and lines in its wake.

Prior to the storm team’s departure, Mississippi Power crews worked safely overnight Saturday to restore customers, with the majority of the storm’s impact being in the company’s Northern Division.

“We completed our restoration yesterday here in Mississippi safely and plan to do the same thing in Alabama,” said Line Construction and Maintenance Supervisor Charlie Watson. “We appreciate our customers’ patience as we worked this weekend and will remain ready to respond to their needs no matter what weather comes our way.”
