Four local students received firsthand experience of how government functions as they served as Senate pages during the 2025 Legislative Session. Pages are tasked with running errands and other duties supporting state officials and Senate staff.
Meridian’s LilyAnn Cooper and Robert Carleton, Ella McCallTemple of Marion, and Anna Claire Myatt of Collinsville were sponsored as pages by Sen. Jeff Tate.
“I loved getting an up-close look at how our state government works,” Cooper said. “It was amazing to talk with all of our senators and see that they are just everyday people who genuinely love their state and want what’s best for it.”
“This experience gave me a behind-the-scenes look at our government,” said Temple. “I loved meeting our senators and spending time with the senior pages.”
“I have thoroughly enjoyed listening to and learning from our very own Mississippi senators. This week, I’ve made so many valuable connections and had the chance to experience the decisions that will impact my future. I have truly cherished the opportunity to be in the presence of these incredible leaders,” said Myatt. “A big thank you to Senator Tate for making this experience possible!”
“This week, I had an incredible experience learning about how our government operates,” Carleton said. “From retrieving a bill off the printer to finding photos of past governors, I had the chance to explore the ins and outs of the Capitol building. I would like to extend a special thank you to Senator Jeff Tate for sponsoring me as a page.”
