The Meridian City Council on Tuesday recognized Lamar School’s robotics team as it hosts a regional competition this weekend.
More than 22 teams of students from public and private schools throughout the state are expected to travel to Lamar for the Saturday competition, and the opportunity it provides to qualify for the state-level competition set to be held in Oxford later this year.
In competition, teams will be tasked with the design, construction, programming and operation of robots that must meet given parameters and complete set tasks. Lamar, as the host school, will not participate in the event, but the team has already qualified for state at a previous competition.
Phyllis Skipper, a teacher at Lamar School and advisor for the robotics team, said it was exciting to be recognized by the City Council and the opportunity for the team to show off their work.
