Great Southern Bank announces promotions

Great Southern Bank announces the promotions of Keri Bucurel to vice president, Staff Accountant and Information Security Officer, Sherrye Cawthon to vice president and branch officer, Shelia Chancelor to vice president and loan operations officer, Jessica Kimbrell to vice president and human resource director, Caleb Mercer to audit and administration coordinator, Jade Richardson to assistant vice president and loan review officer, and Laura Sullivan to assistant vice president and network administration officer, according to Steven Cooksey, president and CEO.  The bank also announces the addition of David E. Monsour as senior vice president to the bank.

 

Bucurel, a native of Meridian, graduated from Clarkdale High School and attended Meridian Community College.  She began her career with Great Southern Bank in 2006 in the bank’s operations department.  In 2014, Bucurel was promoted to audit officer and oversaw the bank’s internal audit function.  In 2021, Bucurel transitioned to staff accountant and information security officer.  Bucurel and her husband Tommy have two children, Cora and Austin.  They are members of New Hope Baptist Church where she teaches the 2-year-old Sunday school class.

Cawthon, a native of Petal, graduated from Petal High School and Jones College.  She began her banking career in 1999, working in various positions with The First Bank.  Cawthon joined Great Southern Bank in 2006 as a loan secretary.  Cawthon has also served as executive assistant, branch officer and assistant vice president.  She and her husband Brian,= have two children, Lane and Courtney.  They are members of Turning Pointe Church.

 

Chancelor, a native of Heidelberg, graduated from Heidelberg Academy.  She began her banking career in 1985 as a teller with Citizens National Bank.  Chancelor joined Great Southern Bank in 1992 as a loan operations clerk.  She was promoted to loan operations officer in 2011 and assistant vice president in 2021.  Chancelor is responsible for the bank’s loan operations functions.  Chancelor and her husband Tim have one daughter, Brittany Craven (Morgan) and two grandsons, Cohen and Chanan.

 

Kimbrell, a native of Meridian, graduated from Southeast Lauderdale High School and attended Meridian Community College.  Kimbrell began her banking career with Great Southern Bank in April 2016 as an administrative assistant.  She later moved to the financial division to serve as an accounts payable specialist and cash management coordinator.  In July 2022, she was promoted to assistant vice president and personnel officer.  Kimbrell is a certified professional with the Society for Human Resource Management and serves on the Mississippi Bankers Association’s Human Resources Committee.  She is married to William, and they have two daughters, Peyton King (Jacob) and Avery.  They are members of North Park Church.

 

Mercer, a native of Enterprise, graduated from Enterprise High School, Meridian Community College and Mississippi State University with a degree in interdisciplinary studies with a focus in history and business.  Mercer began his banking career with Regions Bank prior to being named sales manager at Mississippi Music where he worked for five years.  Mercer joined Great Southern Bank in 2021 as internal auditor and is responsible for the bank’s internal audit function.  In his new role, Mercer will continue to manage the audit function and coordinate special projects for the bank’s executive management team.  Mercer is married to Emily, and they have two sons, Eli and Jude.  They are members of Bethany Church in Quitman.

 

Monsour, a native of Meridian, graduated from Meridian High School and Meridian Community College.  Monsour joined Central Financial Services, a wholly owned subsidiary of Great Southern Bank, in 1988 as a manager.  While with CFS, Monsour also served as a district manager and president of the corporation.  Monsour, and his wife Linda have two children, Kristin Cowan (Charles) and Kayla Vanzandt (Spencer).  They are members of New Hope Baptist Church.

 

Richardson, a native of Chunky, graduated from Newton County High School and attended Meridian Community College.  She began her banking career when she joined Great Southern Bank as a teller in 2000.  During her time with the bank, Richardson has also served as new account representative, loan assistant and loan review and compliance assistant prior to being promoted to loan review officer in 2022.  In her current role, Richardson handles the bank’s internal loan review functions and CDFI reporting.  Richardson and her husband Dewayne have two children, Delaney and Levi.  They are members of Rose Hill Baptist Church.

 

Sullivan, a native of Meridian, graduated from Meridian High School and Meridian Community College.  She furthered her education at Columbia Southern University, graduating cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, and at Colorado Technical University, graduating with distinction, with a masters of science focused on information systems security.  Sullivan began her banking career with Great Southern Bank in 2021 as its network administrator.  Prior to joining the bank, Sullivan worked with Koch Foods as a physical security specialist and taught information systems technology at East Central Community College.  Sullivan, and her Husband Steven have one son, Franek.  They are members of First Baptist Church of Collinsville.
