Students compete in county spelling bee

A total of 18 students competed in the Lauderdale County Spelling Bee Friday, Jan. 24, representing multiple area schools such as Meridian Public School District, Anchor Christian Academy, Lauderdale County School District and Russell Christian Academy.

Anchor Christian Academy’s Reese Ann Gressett took first place, while Liam Johnson, of Southeast Middle School, took second and Drew Hogan, of Russell Christian Academy, took third. All three students will advance to the online semi-finals of the state spelling bee, held Feb. 11-13.
