MCC, ECCC to close Tuesday due to weather

Meridian Community College and East Central Community College will be closed Tuesday as winter weather is expected to move across the state.

A winter storm watch is in effect for much of south and central Mississippi beginning Monday night. The National Weather Service in Jackson warns areas of the state could see as much as 1-2 inches of snow accumulation, icy roads and other hazards.

In a statement, MCC officials said Tuesday classes and activities will be postponed due to the possible weather.

“Out of an abundance of caution concerning the potential inclement weather, Meridian Community College will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 21. All classes, activities, and events will be postponed,” college officials said.

A decision on Wednesday classes will be made Tuesday.

East Central Community College also announced it is also cancelling in-person classes, however students will transition to virtual learning to make up for the closure.

“ECCC students need to check their Canvas accounts for announcements/coursework from their instructors. Residence halls will re-open on Tuesday at 4 p.m.,” school officials announced in a statement.

Students and staff are encouraged to monitor ECCC social media for further weather updates.
