Four Marion residents will help organize and oversee the town’s municipal elections later this year as voters head to the polls to elect a mayor and Board of Aldermen.

In a meeting Tuesday, aldermen named LaToya Griggs, Betty Fox, Susie Broadhead and Ray Cantrell as election commissioners for the 2025 election cycle. Town Clerk Wanda Bouldin said the four commissioners are scheduled to attend a virtual training course to help them understand their duties on Jan. 23.

For their efforts conducting the election, she said, the commissioners will be paid $125.

Also helping with the election will be Resolution Board members Bernice Martin, Jamie Germany and Candy Ward, as well as poll workers Sanda Barnes, Kathy Brown and Kathy King Ruffin. Both board members and poll workers will be paid $75.

Bouldin said she had already reached all of those named, and they had agreed to assist the town with its elections.

“All of them, I did talk to, and they did agree to serve,” she said.

The qualifying period for municipal election candidates is open through January 31. On the ballot will be the position of mayor and five aldermen seats. Unlike Meridian and Lauderdale County, which are elected by districts, Marion aldermen are elected at large, meaning all town residents vote on each candidate.

Candidates must be residents of the town of Marion for at least two years prior to Election Day to be eligible to run for office.
