More than 100 runners set out on the trails at Bonita Lakes Saturday during the eighth annual Great Scorpion Trail Race. The yearly event draws athletes from throughout the country who come to test themselves with either a 50-kilometer, 25-kilometer or 12.5-kilometer distance.

Great Scorpion also serves as a fundraiser for the National Alopecia Areata Foundation with this year’s race surpassing $30,000 of total fundraising over the life of the event. Saturday’s event also saw another achievement as Hattiesburg runner Zach Vogt set a new course record for the men’s 50k with a time of 4:24:06.
