A little learning curve

Me and my bright ideas! Right here before Christmas I thought it would be a great idea to upgrade to a new computer. Well…let me tell you I couldn’t even get a column written and sent in on time since I made the change. Thankfully, my editors have been patient with me through this process.
I’m sure that eventually my new computer will be like the old friend this one is, but today it has been frustrating. We paid the Geek Squad quite a few bucks to alleviate the stress of our new purchase, and they kept my old one longer than I realized was necessary to transfer everything over so I didn’t have access to either one for a while.
I know my new Macbook will have many bells and whistles that this one does not, but I occasionally think the simple old tools work just fine. My sister told me one day that it was even a chore to buy toothpaste because there were so many different varieties it could get downright confusing. I laughed heartily when she said it, but there is some truth to her observation.
Why was my computer obsolete? It worked just fine, but I kept getting messages that soon I wouldn’t be able to email because my space was running out. It was probably just something to make me take the plunge and make a purchase, but I wasn’t sure so Best Buy called my name.
It seems pretty hilarious that I am now sitting with my old computer in my lap, Winnie by my side, and the new one on the closet shelf! I remember my Mamaw didn’t want a new house when my grandfather wanted to build one for her. She felt comfortable in her old house and told my Papaw she didn’t mind all of her grandchildren running to and fro in her home, but she was concerned that a new one might take the fun out. She felt that she might not be so happy having a house full of munchkins making a mess as they went if everything was shiny and new.
After Papaw went to live with Jesus she lived in her old farmhouse alone until time took its toll and a move was necessary. I guess I never gave a lot of thought to this little tidbit of her passing on a new house, but it really does say a lot about my grandmother’s character. She put people above possessions, and knew herself well enough to know what that looked like for her.
My sweet potatoes have been boiling with the buzzer telling me they were ready for quite some time. I better get busy with my cooking for family coming in later today. Since my computer glitches have set me back this will come to you a little later, but I send best wishes for a wonderful 2025 filled with the peace and wisdom that only our wonderful Savior can give.
