The Meridian City Council is expected to vote Tuesday to ratify an emergency sewer repair on Second Street.
In a work session, City Attorney Will Simmons said railroad employees noticed some sinking around the tracks near Second Street and 27th Avenue, just south of Meridian Public Works Complex on Dec. 20. After alerting Public Works, it was determined a sewer line had collapsed.

Mayor Jimmie Smith authorized an emergency repair of the line, and Hemphill Construction, which has an annual term contract with the city for sewer line projects, set up bypass pumps to divert wastewater around the collapsed section.
Simmons said Hemphill will soon begin work to excavate the area and replace the collapsed line. In total, he said, the project is estimated to cost around $300,000.
