A Toomsuba woman was killed Tuesday in a shooting in the Lauderdale community, according to the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department.

Sheriff Ward Calhoun said Metro Ambulance alerted E-911 about a call of someone being shot in the 4000 block of York Road at 1:51 p.m. Deputies responding to the call learned one person had been injured in the shooting.

Alexis Deshanna House, 24, of Toomsuba, was identified as the victim who later died from her injuries, Calhoun said, and an investigation into the shooting is underway.

“While this incident is still under investigation, there is no danger to the community,” he said. “All parties have been identified and the investigation is ongoing.”
