Northeast Lauderdale High School will see two of its student athletes go on to compete at the next level after seniors Raven Ramsey and Camrien Scarbrough signed letters of intent Monday to continue their softball careers in college.

Ramsey is set to join the Lions at East Mississippi Community College come fall, while Scarbrough will head to East Central Community College in Decatur.

Beverly McKnight, softball coach at Northeast Lauderdale, said both players have contributed a lot to their team, and she is excited to see them take the next step of their journey.

“We’re so excited for Cam and Raven,” she said. “They’ve been such an asset to Northeast softball, and I know they’ll be an asset at East Central and EMCC.”

The two players’ efforts, however, do not end with athletics, McKnight said, and both are diligent in the classroom as well as on the field.

“Both of them are outstanding young ladies. They’re great students, great athletes, extremely hard workers,” she said. “They’re always wanting to stay late after practice and do a little bit extra, get a few more reps in, and so they’re just outstanding.”

Ramsey said she will miss her Northeast teammates but is excited to move forward and take on the new challenge of college athletics.

“I’m so grateful for the people who’ve supported me throughout this journey, and I’m just ready to start,” she said.

Scarbrough said she too is excited to see what the future holds and wants to thank those who have supported her along the way.

“I’m excited, ready for the next journey,” she said.
