Meridian and Lauderdale County residents are encouraged to bring vulnerable plants and pets indoors this weekend as below freezing temperatures are expected to persist through Monday.

 

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, frost and freezing are likely across much of Central Mississippi with lows reaching 31 degrees on Saturday, 28 degrees on Sunday and 27 degrees Monday night. Damage to unprotected vegetation is likely, the agency said.

 

Adding to cold overnight lows, temperatures will struggle to climb in the daytime reaching 55 degrees on Saturday, 58 degrees on Sunday and 53 degrees on Monday.
