MADISON, Wis. (AP) — John Blackwell scored a career-high 30 points and John Tonje added 19 as No. 19 Wisconsin rallied to beat UT Rio Grande Valley 87-84 Monday night. Wisconsin overcame a 52-48 halftime deficit to extend its season-opening winning streak to five games. The Vaqueros (3-3) entered with a three-game winning streak. Hasan Abdul Hakim scored 19 points and Trey Miller 12 for UTRGV.
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin coach Luke Fickell says he never envisioned making a major staff change with the season still going on. Fickell didn’t go into details about why he changed course and fired Phi Longo as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Fickell also remained circumspect regarding the plan for the rest of the season. Fickell didn’t specify who would call plays Saturday at Nebraska beyond indicating it would be a collaborative process. Wide receivers coach Kenny Guiton will now work with quarterbacks as well. Braedyn Locke will remain Wisconsin’s starting quarterback.
UNDATED (AP) — Kansas strengthened its grip on No. 1 in the AP Top 25. The rest of the top 10 turned into a jumble of teams swapping places. The Jayhawks picked up five first-place votes in The Associated Press men’s college basketball poll, receiving 49 from a 61-person media panel. No. 2 UConn, No. 3 Gonzaga and No. 4 Auburn all received votes. The shuffling started with No. 8 Alabama’s loss to No. 6 Purdue, a game that dropped the Crimson Tide six spots and bumped the Boilermakers up seven. Losses by Duke and Arizona shook up the top 10.
UNDATED (AP) — TCU has entered The Associated Press Top 25 women’s basketball poll at No. 19, the school’s best ranking in 16 years. The first 12 teams in the Top 25 remained unchanged with South Carolina once again a unanimous choice at No. 1. The Gamecocks were followed by UConn, USC, Texas and UCLA. The Gamecocks and Bruins will play on Sunday a day after No. 6 Notre Dame visits the Trojans. LSU, Iowa State, Oklahoma and Kansas State round out the top 10.
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) — Kendall Bostic scored 25 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead No. 23 Illinois to an easy 94-25 win over Le Moyne to highlight Field Trip Day. With Bostic making 11 of 13 shots, the Illini finished at 58% with nine 3-pointers. They were also 11 of 12 from the foul line. The Dolphins (0-5) shot 23%, going 2 of 21 behind the arc. They were outrebounded 42-18 and had 22 turnovers that led to 42 points. Eli Clark was the leading scorer with seven. Bostic had five points and six different players scored in a 19-0 run to start the second quarter and Illinois led 49-9 at halftime.
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — Peyton Scott scored 17 points and No. 23 Oregon used a fast start to earn a 70-54 victory over Grand Canyon, the Ducks’ fifth straight homecourt win. Oregon now has started the season with five straight wins five times in coach Kelly Graves 11 seasons.
ANN ARBOR, Mich, (AP) — Nimari Burnett scored a season high 18 points and Auburn transfer Tre Donaldson matched his career high with 16 as Michigan roared away from Miami (OH) in the second half to post a 94-67 win in an opening-round game in the Fort Myers Tipoff tournament. Michigan held an eight-point lead, 44-36 at intermission and opened the second half with an 8-0 run kicked off by a Burnett jumper and a Roddy Gayle Jr. 3-pointer, the first of eight treys the Wolverines knocked down in the final 20 minutes. The team finished shooting 58.3% from the field (35 of 60) and 48.3% from long range (14 of 29).

The Buffaloes also have the inside track to a spot in the Big 12 championship game and at 8-2 they’ve doubled last year’s victory total. Coach Deion Sanders put the kibosh on the notion his players or staff would take time to reflect on what they’ve accomplished so far. He says the Buffs expected to be where they are and there is much left to accomplish
