Local students sign to play sports at collegiate level

More than a dozen standout athletes from two local high schools have signed to continue their education and athletic careers on the collegiate level.
On Thursday, West Lauderdale High School held a signing day for 11 of its seniors who announced plans to continue playing either baseball, soccer, volleyball or softball in college.
Five members of the Knights baseball team signed to continue playing the sport at three area community colleges.
Carter Horton and Ridge Brown announced they will be attending Meridian Community College next fall, where they will be members of the Eagles baseball team. Meanwhile, Jacob Wooten and Kayden Peoples signed to play for East Central Community College in Decatur, and Hunter Russell signed to play baseball for East Mississippi Community College in Scooba.
Three members of the Lady Knights soccer team will continue with the sport in college. Senior Lily Anderson announced she will play for the University of West Alabama, while senior goalie Haley Graham signed to play for East Central Community College. Anna Vincent announced she will be attending Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in Perkinston, where she will play soccer for the Bulldogs.
Maddie Kate Bunyard, who plays both soccer and volleyball for West Lauderdale, has chosen to continue her education at East Central Community College, where she has signed to play volleyball. Senior Lilly Grace Henderson will join her there as a member of the East Central volleyball team.
Also on Thursday, senior Courtney Lewis announced she has signed to play softball and continue her education at Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, Florida.
On Friday, three outstanding student-athletes at Clarkdale High School announced plans to continue their education and baseball careers in college.
Jax Joyner announced he will be attending East Mississippi Community College next fall to play baseball for the Lions, while Eli Swearingen signed to play baseball at Meridian Community College. Luke Williams announced he will be attending East Central Community College to play baseball for the Warriors.
