LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — North Carolina and Kansas will be meeting for only the 13th time in their storied histories on Friday night, and for only the second time, the ninth-ranked Tar Heels will be playing the top-ranked Jayhawks on campus. The game at Allen Fieldhouse is the first of a rare home-and-home series that sees Kansas heading to Chapel Hill in November 2025. While the two bluebloods have rarely played, their 12 matchups have carried plenty of weight. Seven have been in the NCAA Tournament, five have been in the Final Four and, in 1957 and 2022, the two played for the national championship.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Gabe Madsen scored 25 points, surpassing 1,000 for his career and Utah poured in 19 3-pointers to roll past Central Arkansas 98-63. The Utes picked up where they left off in their season opener, when they drilled a school-record 19 3-pointers in a 100-59 romp past Alcorn State. They went 19 of 38 in that game and 19 of 50 in game two, missing their last five attempts at breaking the record in the last four minutes. Gabe Madsen had six triples for the second-straight game and his twin brother Mason had five again. and finished with 15 points. Mike Sharavjamts and Ezra Ausar both scored 13 for Utah, which picked up its 1,900 win..Layne Taylor scored 15 points for the Bears.
MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — Temira Poindexter scored 23 points, Kennedy Taylor added 18 and No. 13 Kansas State rolled to an 82-56 win over Belmont. The senior transfers combined to go 15 of 26 from the field. Poindexter, from Tulsa, was 5 of 10 from 3-point range, and Taylor, from Missouri State, was 6 of 8 from the foul line. Kendall Holmes had 12 points for the Bears. Poindexter hit all five her her shots, including three 3s, for 13 points in the second quarter and 19 in the first half, which ended with the Wildcats up 42-24.
AMES, Iowa (AP) — Audi Crooks scored 16 points, Addy Brown had 12 points and 10 rebounds, and No. 8 Iowa State beat Indiana State 64-42. Crooks scored in double figures for the 34th straight game and had eight rebounds. Brown, a sophomore, had the 11th double-double of her career. Sydney Harris added 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting for the Cyclones. Keslyn Secrist and Deja Jones each scored 12 points for Indiana State.
WACO, Texas (AP) — Darianna Littlepage-Buggs scored 25 points on 11-of-18 shooting and Aaronette Vonleh added 16 points to help No. 12 Baylor beat Incarnate Word 85-33. Jana Van Gytenbeek 10 points and five assists for Baylor (1-0). Jada Walker had 10 assists to go with six points and Bella Fontleroy grabbed 14 rebounds and scored nine points. Littlepage-Buggs made a layup that gave Baylor the lead for good amid a 12-3 run to close the first quarter and make it 17-10. Brynn Lusby led Incarnate Word with 10 points. Baylor had 14 steals and scored 30 points off 24 Cardinals turnovers. The Bears outrebounded Incarnate Word 47-22, including 15-4 offensive, and outscored the Cardinals 13-0 in second-chance points.
UNDATED (AP) — Coach Deion Sanders and 21st-ranked Colorado play their first November game tied for second place in the Big 12 conference. The 6-2 Buffaloes got in that position and moved up two spots in the AP poll during their open date last weekend. That’s when 6-3 Texas Tech won at previously-undefeated Iowa State. Colorado plays at Texas Tech on Saturday. Ninth-ranked BYU is the league’s only undefeated team. The 8-0 Cougars play at Utah for the first time since 2021.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — More than mere bragging rights are on the line when BYU and Utah renew their rivalry for the first time in three years on Saturday. No. 9 BYU is 8-0 and debuted at No. 9 in the initial College Football Playoff rankings. The Cougars hold a one-game lead atop the Big 12 standings over Colorado and Iowa State. A victory over Utah would move BYU one step closer to clinching a spot in the Big 12 championship game in the team’s second year in the league. Utah aims to be a spoiler, dealing a blow to BYU’s unexpected title chase while ending a frustrating four-game slide.
LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — Coach Deion Sanders says the 21st-ranked Colorado Buffaloes aren’t changing their mindset in November. The 6-2 Buffs moved up in the Big 12 standings and The Associated Press poll even when they had an open date last week. They go into Saturday’s game at Texas Tech tied for second place in the league. Sanders says every game is like a single-elimination tournament and Colorado has played that way all season. The 6-3 Red Raiders are coming off a 23-22 win at then-No. 11 and undefeated Iowa State that made them bowl eligible and left No. 9 BYU as the league’s only undefeated team.
