- Tyler Brown rushes for a touchdown in the Raiders 42-20 homecoming win over Heritage Academy Friday night.
For many Lauderdale County teams division play begins this week along with a path to the playoffs.
For Lamar School it’s not only the first division matchup but also a shot at some revenge.
The Raiders (3-3) will hit the road to Gallman to face Copiah Academy (5-1) in their division opener in MAIS District 2-5A.
Last season Lamar beat the Colonels 14-7 in the regular season at home, but in the second round of the MAIS Class 5A playoffs, the Colonels beat the Raiders 28-21 to end their season.
“Copiah is a really good team, and we fought two wars with them last year,” said Lamar School head coach Jacob Land. “We played them twice last year and they’ve got some great athletes.”
Lamar will look to carry their momentum forward from last week’s win over Heritage Academy in a game where the Raiders had 245 yards rushing. Quarterback Wyatt Bond, running backs Ashton Jones, Tyler Brown and Kellan Kellery and receivers Jalin Trotter and Sullivan Reed will look to lead the offense.
Copiah on offense will be lead by quarterback Jackson Teasley along with running backs Trey Ellis and Jamarius Grayer.
“They’re well coached and very physical up front,” Land said. “We got to go on the road and play well, so it’s going to be a challenge. The next four weeks in district is going to determine our season.”
