- The Meridian Wildcats take to the field for the first time Friday, Aug. 23, in a scrimmage against Hattiesburg. The team is set to host Quitman on Thursday to kick off the football season.
Student athletes took to the gridiron Friday as football season continued for local schools. Here is a look at a how each team performed:
— The Meridian High School Wildcats dominated on the coast Friday as they defeated Biloxi 26-6. The team is scheduled to travel north next week to take on the Starkville Yellowjackets.
— West Lauderdale came out on top in a matchup against in-county rival Clarkdale with a final score of 42-16. The Knights will next head to Philadelphia to take on Neshoba Central, while the Bulldogs will travel to Forest for a game against the Bearcats.
— The Southeast Lauderdale Tigers also found victory on the field with a 21-20 win over Richland in Friday play. They will next travel to Northeast for an in-county matchup against the Trojans.
— Coming off of a win last week, the Northeast Lauderdale Trojans were unable to extend their streak as they fell 7-42 to Tri-County Academy on Friday. They are next scheduled to host the Southeast Tigers.
All games are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
