With Christmas quickly approaching, The Salvation Army in Meridian is gearing up for this year’s Angel Tree Campaign. The annual campaign provides presents and clothing to hundreds of children in need on Christmas morning.

The Salvation Army is preparing for an increase in service requests this holiday season as the organization continues to see the effects of inflation in the community and will not be able to take applications for senior angels this year.

“We are already seeing a greater number of our neighbors experiencing economic insecurity. Christmas demands and expectations can overwhelm families experiencing financial and housing stress and uncertainty,” said Lt. Roy Fisher, commanding officer of Salvation Army Meridian. “We are committed to serving these families at Christmas, helping children experience the magic of Christmas, and reducing the anxiety for parents trying to provide food and presents during the holiday season.”

This year, The Salvation Army will only be doing angels for those 12 years old and under.

Sign up opportunities for the 2024 angel tree campaign will be held locally at The Salvation Army office located at 1115 25th Ave. in Meridian Sept. 30 – Oct. 3, and Oct. 7-10, from noon to 3:30 p.m.

A sign-up event for Neshoba County residents is set for Oct. 18 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Neshoba Baptist Association and a signup for Newton County residents will be from noon to 2 p.m. Oct. 19 at the Newton Chamber of Commerce.

Parents will need to call the office at 601-483-6156 to schedule an appointment to come in and apply at the local Salvation Army office at 1115 25th Avenue, Meridian, MS 39301. All applications will be taken in person by appointment only.

“Thank you for your continued support of the work of The Salvation Army Meridian, proudly serving Lauderdale, Kemper, Neshoba and Newton Counties,” Fisher said. “With the public’s generosity, The Salvation Army will continue to provide help and hope to individuals and families in need.”
