MCC students receive degrees at summer graduation

Meridian Community College held its summer commencement Friday afternoon at the Evangel Temple, recognizing 112 students who were candidates for graduation.

“This is a special day for sure,” MCC President Thomas Huebner said in calling for a round of applause for this summer’s graduates.

During the ceremony, graduating cosmetology student Lindy Williams offered the invocation, and Zachquana Cole, a practical nursing graduate, welcomed those in attendance. MCC sophomore Payton Alexander, a music major, led the audience in singing the college’s alma mater, while university transfer graduate James Germany closed out the ceremony with the benediction.

Cedric S. Gathings, vice president for student affairs and dean of students, expressed his excitement for the students’ achievements.

”Our students have shown remarkable resilience, and we are honored to celebrate their accomplishments,” he said in a release before the ceremony.

Earlier Friday morning, MCC’s Practical Nursing Program held a separate pinning ceremony to celebrate its 26 graduates for becoming nurses. The college’s Paramedic Program hosted a pinning ceremony Thursday for students completing its certificate and associate’s degree programs.
