Mississippi native races in olympic trials

Mississippian Cory McGee is looking to earn a ticket to Paris as she competes in the U.S. Olympic Team Trials Track and Field being held in Eugene, Oregon.
The 32-year-old Pass Christian native finished first in her heat in the 1200 meter race Thursday with a time of 4:15:75.
She advanced to the semifinals scheduled for 7:53 p.m. Friday, where the top five runners from each heat, plus the next two fastest, move on to Sunday’s final round.
McGee previously qualified for the U.S. Track and Field team in 2021, coming in second in the final 1500 meter race. She went on to compete in the XXXII
Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, where she placed eighth in the first round, 11th in the semifinal and 12th in the final event with a time of 4:05:50.
Sunday’s final round is set to kick off at 7:09 p.m. local time, with residents able to tune in via NBC or Peacock.
