Great Southern Bank announces new hire and promotions

Great Southern Bank announced Monday the hiring of Tammy White as senior vice president of operations and the promotions of Michelle Rowland to executive vice president and chief financial officer, Anthony Thomas to senior vice president, David Burt to senior vice president, Jessica Kimbrell to assistant vice president and personnel officer and Andi McCraney to mortgage loan officer, according to Steven Cooksey, president and chief operating officer.
White, a native of Bay Springs, began her banking career in 1991 with OmniBank in Bay Springs and served in various capacities, including senior vice president of operations, until its merger with Merchants and Planters Bank in 2022. She joined Great Southern Bank in February 2024.
Rowland, a resident of Marion, graduated from Northeast Lauderdale High School and earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Marketing from the University of West Alabama. Rowland began her financial career in 1992 at BancorpSouth in Hattiesburg.
Joining Great Southern Bank in 1997 as marketing and training coordinator, she later served as branch manager, loan officer, marketing officer and system security officer. She assumed the role of loan review officer in 2015 and was promoted to senior vice president in 2020. Rowland was named chief financial officer in August 2022 and treasurer of Great Southern Capital Corporation in January 2023.
Rowland has served on the Mississippi Bankers Association Security Committee and the Meridian Museum of Art Board. She also served as member and past president of Saint Patrick Catholic School Advisory Council and the Meridian First Ladies Civitan Club, where she received the Distinguished President Award.
Rowland and her husband, Scot, have two daughters, Annakatharine and Alexandria.
Thomas, a native of Meridian, graduated from West Lauderdale High School, East Mississippi Community College and Mississippi State University with a bachelor of Business Administration degree specializing in risk management, financial planning and insurance.
Thomas joined Great Southern Bank in April 2014 as a teller and continued to work through an officer training program until his promotion to loan officer in July 2015. After serving as a loan officer in Quitman for three years, he returned to the Meridian Main Office where he continues to serve as a consumer and commercial lending officer. Thomas is a member of the Meridian Optimist Club and is a graduate of the Leadership Lauderdale program. He is the proud father of two daughters, Sawyer Layne and Raleigh.
Burt, a native of Newton, graduated from Newton County Academy in Decatur and earned an associate degree in Business Administration from East Central Community College in Decatur, a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Hannibal-La Grange College in Hannibal, Missouri, and an MBA from Mississippi State University–Meridian. He is also a graduate of the Mississippi School of Banking in Oxford and the Graduate School of Banking in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Burt began his financial career at BankPlus in 2004 and joined Great Southern in 2020.
Burt is secretary for the Greater Decatur Chamber of Commerce, an executive advisory council member of the MSU Extension Service, secretary for the Newton Lions Club and a former councilman for the Mississippi Young Bankers council. In addition to his banking career, Burt serves as assistant tennis coach at Newton County Academy. Burt and his wife, Jessica, have three sons, Taylor, Parker and Samuel.
Kimbrell, of Meridian, graduated from Southeast Lauderdale High School and attended Meridian Community College. Kimbrell began her banking career with Great Southern Bank in April 2016.
She is currently working towards earning a specialized Society for Human Resource Management Certified Professional Certification and serves on the Mississippi Bankers Association’s Human Resources Committee. She is married to William, and they have two daughters, Peyton and Avery.
McCraney, a native of Little Rock, graduated from Newton County Academy and East Central Community College, both in Decatur. McCraney began her banking career in 2013 with Great Southern Bank. During her tenure, she has served the bank as a teller, customer service representative, senior lending assistant and mortgage loan processor. McCraney is a recent graduate of the Leadership Lauderdale program. McCraney is married to Jody and they have three children, Aiden, Ace and Nala. They attend Highland Baptist Church.
