Shirley named State Games lead intern

Alexa Shirley, a Meridian Community College student from Collinsville, was recently named lead intern for the State Games of Mississippi’s 2024 season.

The State Games of Mississippi is the state’s largest amateur sportsfest organization, annually holding more than 40 sporting competitions across the state during May and June.

“We welcome Alexa to the team as she dives into the very busy season for the State Games,” said Executive Director Missye Dozier. “Alexa is in charge of three interns and will be invaluable in helping us with sports directors, volunteers and the Opening Ceremony.”

A student at MCC, Shirley is an Ivy League Recruiter, assistant manager of the MCC soccer team and a member of the Baptist Student Union. She is also on the lead team for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Shirley is a 2023 graduate of West Lauderdale High School, where she was a six-year member of the girls soccer team and a three-time state champion. During her senior year, she served as one of the team’s captains and helped lead the team to a Mississippi 4A girls soccer championship.

A former member of Alliance Futbol Club, Shirley was a longtime participant in the State Games of Mississippi.
