Ryan Mounce has been named the new head coach for both the men’s and women’s tennis teams, Meridian Community College athletic officials recently announced.
Mounce brings a distinguished background in tennis to MCC, having played at Oxford High School and serving as vice president of the Ole Miss Club team, according to an MCC Athletics press release announcing the appointment. As an assistant coach at Lafayette High School under the mentorship of renowned coach Debbie Swindol, Mounce was instrumental in leading the Lafayette Commodores to four state championships. His leadership and expertise have been pivotal in the team’s success.
In addition to his coaching roles, Mounce is an experienced tennis professional at the Oxford Park Commission and has dedicated time as a personal trainer and wellness center staff member at the YMCA. His experience in personal training and player development uniquely positions him to propel the MCC Eagles to new achievements, according to the release.
“Ryan brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success, which will be invaluable in continuing the tradition of excellence at MCC. We are excited to see where his leadership will take our tennis programs,” said MCC Athletic Director Sander Atkinson.
Ryan Mounce expressed his enthusiasm for his new role.
“I’d like to thank MCC Athletic Director Sander Atkinson, the interview committee and MCC President Dr. Huebner for allowing me to step into this role,” said Mounce. “I would also like to thank Coach Debbie Swindol of Lafayette High School for providing me with so much guidance and mentorship as a coach and person over the last four years.”
Mounce takes over from tennis coach TJ Carter, who announced in March he was leaving to pursue other career opportunities. During Carter’s four years as head coach, MCC’s tennis team flourished, including a top-ten finish at the NJCAA Division I Tournament in early May for the Lady Eagles for the first time in 11 years. Carter’s tenure also saw the recognition of two All-Americans, sixteen All-MACCC athletes and seven ITA Award recipients.
