A Toomsuba man was killed Sunday after the ATV he was riding was struck by a train in eastern Lauderdale County.
In a news release, Lauderdale County Sheriff Ward Calhoun said a train traveling east hit an ATV that had stopped on the railroad tracks around 8:15 p.m. near Kewanee Road. The driver of the vehicle, identified Monday as 41-year-old Chad Austin Carney, was killed in the collision.
Members of Toomsuba, Russell and Marion volunteer fire departments, Metro Ambulance and Norfolk Southern Police responded to the call along with Lauderdale County Sheriff’s deputies and Coroner Stella McMahan.
