Community members worked together to beautify Meridian and Lauderdale County Saturday as Keep Meridian Lauderdale County Beautiful held its second Good Citizen Clean-Up Day.

Volunteers spent three hours working throughout the city and county to pick up litter and debris. Craig Wilkes, who works for Meridian Community Development and helped organize the event, said roughly 100 people signed up to take part in the cleanup.

Saturday’s event was one of several events planned over the next two years as the Keep America Beautiful organization works to clean up streets across the nation ahead of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence being signed on July 4, 2026. Organizers locally hope to organize four cleanups, as well as other beautification projects and educational events, each year.
