Parkview fifth-grader Ja’leah Wright won first place in the sculpture category for her work.

“I was very happy and excited,” Wright said of winning the award. “It wasn’t just me who did it, my friends and teachers helped also.”

Robert Craft, Parkview’s Beta Club sponsor, said he was pleased with Wright’s achievement.

“I am extremely proud of her achievement and all the hard work she put into this and super proud about how well she did,” Craft said.

Parkview Elementary’s BETA Club is made up of fourth and fifth graders. Students meet and work on their projects after school. Along with Craft, Amanda Mowery, Beta Club sponsor, and Justin Alexander, the school’s art teacher, helped with the sculpture.

Wright said the Beta Club has helped her learn new leadership skills.

“I have learned to always be kind and if someone needs help — help them out,” she said.
