Sporting clay enthusiasts are encouraged to mark their calendars and make sure their shotguns are clean as East Mississippi Electric Power Association’s popular Shoot For A Cure event is back. The event brings together community members and businesses for two days of fun competition and fundraising for a vital cause.

The sporting clays extravaganza will take place Thursday, March 21, and Friday, March 22, at Camp Binachi Shooting Sports in Lauderdale County to raise funds for cancer patients and their families. Its impact resonates throughout the community, supporting both the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Anderson Regional Cancer Center Patient Benevolence Fund.

“The smiles on the patients’ faces when we visit the cancer center with the fundraising check are what truly matter,” said event coordinator Margaret Brewer. “It’s a humbling reminder that EMEPA makes a real difference in people’s lives.”

This year, the bar is set high with a goal to surpass last year’s record of $35,000 and 103 teams by reaching $38,000 and 115 teams. Anyone interested can register a two-person team for $240 or become a sponsor at $250. Participants may also register as a two-person team and receive a stand sponsorship for $400.

Beyond the thrill of the competition, exciting raffles add to the fun. Contestants will have an opportunity to win a Glock 43X 9mm handgun courtesy of Thomas Gun and Pawn or take home a Ruger 10-22 rifle from Rock House Gun and Pawn. Tickets, which cost $1, are available at any EMEPA office.

“Let’s make this 11th anniversary a resounding success,” Brewer said. “Shoot For A Cure, and together, we can aim for a future free of cancer.”
