Social media influencer Kris Rotonda, of Jordan’s Way, will be in Lauderdale County Wednesday as four local animal rescue organizations band together to raise funds for unclaimed pets.
Meridian Animal Shelter, Lauderdale County Animal Shelter, Roadside Rescue Network and East Mississippi Animal Rescue will host Rotonda at the Lauderdale County Animal Shelter, located at 6100 Rocky Lane in Marion, with a livestream fundraiser running from 6-9 p.m. on Facebook.
Rotonda founded Jordan’s Way in memory of his dog, Jordan, who died of heart cancer. A former shelter dog, Jordan spent 11 years with Rotonda before passing away.
Through Jordan’s Way, Rotonda has helped raise more than $7.5 million for shelters and rescue groups in the past three years. His 50-state tour has included stops in Clarksdale, Vicksburg and more.
“After she passed, I made it my life’s mission to honor her legacy by helping overlooked shelter animals get the attention they deserve,’ Rotonda said in a release announcing the fundraiser.
Brian McCary, supervisor at Meridian Animal Shelter, said Rotonda’s live streams are both entertaining and interactive. It is not uncommon for someone to take a pie to the face during the performance, he said, and even the animals get to join in the fun.
In a social media post announcing the event, Lauderdale County Animal Control Supervisor Rocky Rockette said 25% of the funds raised will go to Jordan’s Way to assist with its mission. The remaining 75% of the funds will be divided equally among the four local animal rescue groups.
McCary said both Meridian and Lauderdale County animal control plan to put their portions of the money into their respective spay and neuter funds. Roadside Rescue Network and East Mississippi Animal Rescue, he said, are more dependent on donations as they are not funded by local governments and will use their funds where they are needed most.
Residents can help with the fundraiser by taking part in the games and activities during the livestream, watching and sharing the event on social media and donating funds to go toward the care of animals. Local businesses and organizations are also invited to get involved with matching opportunities.
