Meridian Regional Airport’s facilities will soon get an upgrade after Sen. Rodger Wicker on Friday announced it is one of two Mississippi airports to receive federal grant funding.
The $7.5 million grant, which is being awarded through the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Terminal Program, will be put toward construction of a new terminal building and access road.
“Folks deserve a safer travel experience and more efficient airport systems. That is why I have long advocated for investments, just like this funding, in our airports,” Wicker said. “These upgrades will expand airline options as well as attract and create more business opportunities in Mississippi.”
The ATP grant program is awarded annually to help airports address aging infrastructure such as traffic control towers, terminals and more. In addition to Meridian Regional Airport, Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport in Jackson is set to receive $8 million for a terminal rehabilitation project.
