Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department is warning residents after several people reported receiving calls from someone claiming to be an LCSD employee.

In a news release, Sheriff Ward Calhoun said this particular scam has several variations, with the callers claiming residents missed jury duty or owe money on old fines. There are two people involved, he said, with one person answering the phone before transferring the call to the second person.

“The Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department will never call and have you provide information to pay a fine over the telephone,” Calhoun said. “We will not ask for a ‘cash’ card number, credit card information or checking account information.”

Residents receiving the scam calls are advised to hang up and avoid talking to the scammers.
