The Magnolia Middle School Wildcats football team and cheerleaders pose for a photo with the Meridian City Council on Tuesday at city hall.

The Meridian City Council on Tuesday welcomed the Magnolia Middle School football team, which recently defeated Northwest Middle School to be crowned city champions. The team, along with its coaches and cheerleaders, were recognized for their achievement during the City Council’s semimonthly meeting.

Council President Joe Norwood Jr. said people all too often only hear about the negative things going on in the community. It was nice, he said, to take time to recognize the good things Meridian’s youth are doing and join Magnolia’s students in celebrating the team’s achievement.
