- Longtime friends Dekota Cheatham, left, and Krissy Long, authors of the children's book "Watson Goes to the Fair," about a 10-year-old Standard Poodle's trip to the Neshoba County Fair, will be on hand at the Mississippi Arts + Entertainment Experience's Fall Fling on Saturday for Story Time and a book signing.
Autumn is in the air as the Mississippi Arts + Entertainment Center looks to celebrate Fall Fling this Saturday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
The annual event will offer an array of activities for children from bounce houses, face painting, snow cones, lawn games and more.
“We do it every fall and spring,” Gabby Ortiz, marketing coordinator for The MAX museum, said of the Fall and Spring Fling events. “We had around 600 people who attended the Spring Fling this year.”
All activities will be included with the museum’s discounted admission of $5 for adults and $1 for ages 6-17. Children 5 and under will be admitted free.
Little ones may get the chance to meet their favorite Superhero or Princess during a Meet & Greet from 11 a.m. until noon with the Meridian Community College’s Arts & Letters Stage 2 Theater Group participating.
From noon until 1 p.m., they can participate in Story Time and a book signing with Dekota Cheatham and Krissy Long, authors of “Watson Goes to the Fair.” The two longtime friends co-authored the children’s book, which features a 10-year-old Standard Poodle and his adventures during a trip to the Neshoba County Fair. Cheatham teaches biology and nutrition at East Central Community College, and Krissy Long is a fifth-grade teacher at Neshoba Central Elementary School.
From 2-3 p.m. Meridian Little Theatre’s Front & Center Teen Division will perform selections from the Broadway show “Grease,” which the group staged back in August. A popular musical, “Grease” features fan favorites such as “Hopelessly Devoted to You,” “Grease is the Word,” “You’re the One That I Want” and “Sandy.”
The Mississippi Arts + Entertainment Experience is located at 2155 Front Street in downtown Meridian. For more information, visit the museum’s website at msarts.org.
