Authorities are investigating a death after human remains were found Thursday in Meridian.

Lauderdale County Coroner Clayton Cobler said the bones were found near the Shell Station on 22nd. Avenue. The remains appear to have been there from nine months to a year, but a cause of death has not been determined, he said.

Meridian Police Dept. Lt. Patrick Gale said the remains were found Thursday afternoon and sent to the state crime lab, but provided no other information in the case.
