Foul play suspected after body found in Meridian creek

- Bill Graham / The Meridian StarA dead body was found in a creek on 19th Street between 19th Avenue and 20th Avenue in Meridian Sunday morning, according to Lauderdale County Coroner Clayton Cobler.
Authorities in Meridian are investigating a death after a man’s body was found in a creek Sunday morning.
A witness called police after finding the body in a creek between 19th Avenue and 20th Avenue around 9:26 a.m., according to MPD Capt. John Griffith. The man, who was not carrying identification, was pronounced dead at the scene, Griffith said.
The man had several cuts to his head, and could have been in the water for as long as eight hours, according to Lauderdale County Coroner Clayton Cobler.
The body is being sent to the state crime lab in Pearl for an autopsy. Griffith said foul play is suspected in the death.
