Newton County Academy’s season came to an end Wednesday afternoon as the Generals fell to Brookhaven Academy 4-3 in Game 2 of the MAIS Class AA South State title series.

The Generals took a 2-2 tie into the top of the seventh inning before scoring one run in the frame on a Dalton Sibley single that scored Lee Hollingsworth at put NCA 3-2 with the opportunity to force a third game. But the Cougars scored two runs in the bottom of the frame to walk off against the Generals and punch their tickets to the Class AA state championship series next week.

Hays West was 2-for-4 with a two-run single, and Hayden Wall also went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Lincoln Jordan and Alec Thompson also collected hits for NCA, and Kemp Alderman was walked four times.

Hayden West pitched 6 1/3 innings for NCA, giving up four runs, three earned, on five hits and three walks. He also struck out five.

The Generals finished the season with a 17-14 record.
