Others stepped up, though, as Alderman drew four walks in NCA’s 9-5 win against Centreville in Game 1 of the first round of MAIS Class AA playoffs Tuesday.

Braxton Thoms had an RBI single, and Alec Thompson had a two-run single for the Generals. Hayden West finished 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Harber Reese also had an RBI.

Alderman pitched five innings for the Generals, giving up four runs, three earned, on four hits with seven walks and eight strikeouts. Thompson pitched the final two innings, surrendering one unearned run on two hits and a walk. He also struck out two.

NCA is scheduled to play again at Centreville Academy, but expected rain has forced the schools to take a wait-and-see approach on the day and time of Game 2.
