Fred’s closes 159 locations, including 22nd Ave Meridian

Memphis-based Fred’s Inc. announced the closure of 159 “underperforming stores” across the southeast Thursday, including Meridian’s 22nd Avenue location, according to the Memphis Business Journal.
The store’s website lists 31 closing stores in Mississippi and 19 in Alabama, which will have “Store Closing sales” in the upcoming weeks.
Other East Mississippi stores on the closure list include a store in Forest, on Woodland Drive, and Philadelphia, on Pecan Avenue.
The Memphis Business Journal said stores are expected to close by the end of May.
