Within the first three months of new 10th Circuit Court District Attorney Kassie Coleman’s term her office has convicted a Wayne County murderer, a Clarke County burglar and a Lauderdale County sexual abuser.
Coleman’s office detailed each case in a news release Friday, beginning with the Wayne County trial of David Lee Lacey Jr. in Wayne County.
A jury convicted Lacey of shooting Gary Wayne Martin to death in July 2015 and acquitted fellow defendant Demarco Quentrell Felps. Lacey received a prison sentence for life from Circuit Court Judge Charles W. Wright Jr.
Cynthia Laurine Burfurd, of Clarke County, was sentenced by Wright to 15 years after a jury conviction for her role in a Dec. 18 burglary of a dwelling. Her co-defendant, Jamison Casey Dunnigan, is scheduled to be tried on March 7.
Dex Hunter Stone has yet to be sentenced but a Lauderdale County jury found Stone guilty of lustful touching of a child on Jan. 23. Stone is scheduled to be sentenced on Feb. 5 and faces two to 15 years in custody.
