Investigators charged Maurice Dawson, of Meridian, with arson following a Tuesday afternoon house fire that damaged a Meridian home. 

Firefighters quickly doused the fire, which occurred at a home near 19th Street and 23rd Avenue, around 4 p.m. Tuesday. Jason Collier, the Meridian Fire Department Deputy Chief, said that the fire may have started in the front of the home.

Collier said that the Meridian Police Department and State Fire Marshal’s office would handle the investigation. 

Bond for Dawson was set at $50,000.
