Videt Carmichael won’t seek re-election to state Senate

Mississippi District 33 Senator Videt Carmichael, R-Meridian, who has served since 2000, announced Monday he will not seek re-election.
Carmichael, who chairs the Senate Insurance Committee and is Vice Chairman of the Investigate State Offices Committee, made the announcement in a news release.
“It’s time,” Carmichael, 68.
In the senate he also serves on the Appropriations Committee Business and Financial Institutions Committee, Corrections Committee, Energy Committee and Ports and Marine Resources Committee. Carmichael also is a member and past Chairman of the Joint Legislative Committee on Performance Evaluation and Expenditure Review, PEER.
Carmichael has been a teacher, a principal and a coach, along with his service in the Senate.
Carmichael and his wife, Donna, have two children and six grandchildren.
