Accidental Meridian house fire caused by unattended candle

A Meridian residence was damaged but no one was injured during an accidental fire Monday afternoon.
Firefighters responded to the house fire at 1611 5th Street around 2:30 p.m., Deputy Fire Chief Jason Collier said.
No one was at home during the time of the fire, Collier said.
The fire was an accident due to an unattended candle, he said. The house received minor to moderate damage, he said.
Thick smoke could be seen billowing from the house during the fire.
