A two-vehicle accident on Highway 45 South, near the Lauderdale-Clarke County line, killed a Meridian man and injured another early Monday morning.
Tommy Turner, 51, died just before 1 a.m. Monday traveling south on Highway 45 in a Pontiac Grand Prix with Tasha Turner, 45, according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
The Turner’s Grand Prix was passing a Toyota Tundra, driven by Mitchell Spotts, 49, of Quitman, when the Turners, both of Meridian, swerved into Spotts’ vehicle, according to troopers.
Troopers stated in their report that the Turners vehicle spun in the road, left the highway and collided with a pine tree on the driver’s side, killing Tommy Turner and injuring Tasha Turner.
Spotts’ physical condition was unknown, according to the report.
Mississippi Highway Patrol Sgt. Andy West said that the cause of the accident was under investigation.
