JuCo Basketball: EMCC and MCC split double-header

East Mississippi Community College and Meridian Community College split their basketball double-header Monday at Keyes T. Currie Coliseum in Scooba.

The Lady Eagles earned a 76-69 overtime win in the first game of the evening, while the East Mississippi men defeated MCC 74-69 in the nightcap.

Topazia Hawkins paced the Lady Eagles with 23 points, and DaKeiya Cooley and LaChrisha Williams added 16 points apiece.

Tye Metcalf’s 26 points led the Lady Lions. Maddie Riley tallied her second double-double effort of the year behind 13 points and 13 rebounds for EMCC.

MCC improved to 1-1, while EMCC fell to 1-1.

EMCC’s Darrious Agnew tallied a team-high 12 points in the men’s contest. Terryonte Thomas and Dawson Graham added 11 points apiece, and Markedric Bell and Robert Davis Jr. each finished with 10 points.

MCC’s Alvarez Powell ended with 19 points, and teammate Alex Oguinn contributed with 16.

EMCC moved to 2-0 on the year, and MCC dropped to 1-1.

Up next: Both East Mississippi teams travel to East Central Thursday for another double-header.
