Doris McRae, who has been a member of the Rush Foundation Hospital Volunteer Auxiliary since 2000, has been selected as Volunteer of the Year. McRae was honored on Oct. 19 along will hospital volunteers from across the state at a special luncheon hosted by the Mississippi Hospital Association.
After retiring from Peavey Electronics, McRae had a desire to do more to give back to her community and help others. She began talking to some of her friends who were volunteers at Rush. After meeting with the volunteer director, McRae immediately knew that she wanted to share her time and talents at Rush, and she has never looked back.
In addition to her volunteer duties, McRae is involved in her church, where she is chairman of the greeting committee and active in her Sunday School class.
Volunteer Director Alice Raines said of McRae, “She has a special way of lifting people’s spirits and making them feel at ease. Her smile and positive personality are contagious. She is a true southern lady who would do anything to help someone.”
