A person was hospitalized after being shot early Saturday morning near the old Velma Young Center near Parkview Elementary School in Meridian.

Meridian Police spokesman Sgt. Dareall Thompson said Monday afternoon he didn’t know the condition of the victim or if the victim had been released from the hospital.

The shooting happened around 12:20 a.m., following an altercation, Thompson said.

When police arrived they found the victim alert, Thompson said. The victim was taken by ambulance to a local emergency room.

Police interviewed witnesses and are seeking a suspect, Thompson said. Police are investigating the cause of the altercation, Thompson said.

Police are still looking for a suspect, Thompson said Monday afternoon.
