Annual Queen City Fair promises fun galore

New attractions will highlight the annual Queen City Fair when it opens its weeklong run on Monday, Oct. 8. The event runs through Oct. 14 and will be held at the Lauderdale Agri-Center at 1030 Highway 19 South.

According to show director Len McRae, two new feature attractions will be the “Swifty Swine Racing Pigs”, which he described as “hilarious.” The pigs will display their unique racing skills three to four times a day during fair hours. The other new feature will be chainsaw woodcarving, which will be held three or four times a day.

Acts returning this year are “Johnny Peers’ Muttville Comix Comedy Dog Show” featuring talented pooches performing tricks and other stunts to please young and old alike. A petting zoo full of furry and feathered friends will also be available.

Fairgoers always look forward to the food while enjoying the midway. Approximately 11 food vendors will be on hand from the local area and the carnival bringing in some of its own.

Whether you’re a child or a thrill seeker, approximately 30 rides will be available at the fair, from kiddie rides to super thrill rides with a few new added ones. Different kinds of games will also be taking place on the fairgrounds and there will be several free attractions.

Monday begins with “School Day,” from 4-10 p.m. with free gate admission from 4-5 p.m. There will be $2 rides and one free ride with every Coca-Cola coupon. Friday will be “Midnight Ride Madness,” from 5-10 p.m. Fairgoers may ride all the rides they want with a $25 hand stamp. A $5 gate fee discount will be available for military personnel with a valid military identification.

The fair will wrap up Sunday, Oct. 14 with “Family Fun Day,” beginning at noon and ending at 8 p.m. A $15 hand stamp is available for unlimited rides on the midway on select days, this event being one.

Two contests will take place at the fairgrounds beginning Thursday evening with the “Most Talented Competition,” beginning at 6 p.m. sponsored by Mississippi Music. The “Lil Miss Queen City Fair Pageant,” begins at 2 p.m. Saturday. Contestants must check in at 1 p.m. Applications are available on line for this event and may be filled out on the fair’s website, queencityfair.net.

Fair hours are Monday, 4-10 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday, 5-10 p.m. Friday, 5 p.m. until midnight, Saturday, 1 p.m. until midnight and Sunday, noon-8 p.m.
