The first Meridian Kidney Walk is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21 at Bonita Lakes Park in Meridian.

The walk will raise money for dialysis patient emergencies in Meridian and to spread awareness of chronic kidney disease. The event will also celebrate those who are fighting kidney disease or died of kidney disease.

Mississippi has a high rate of kidney disease, which is most often caused by diabetes and high blood pressure. Many patients receive dialysis, a life-sustaining treatment, three times per week, in the Meridian unit.
